Charlemagne’s palace was also a place of science. Charlemagne himself gathered together the knowledge of his times and ensured that good use could be made of it throughout his empire. Aachen is full of young people. 50,000 of the city’s 250,000 inhabitants are engaged in studies. The RWTH Aachen University is one of Europe’s leading research centres. The RWTH Aachen, a University of Excellence in teaching and research, the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, the University Hospital Aachen and the Research Centre J\u00fclich along with numerous research institutes and research departments of international corporations all stand for scientific creativity and technological innovation. The RWTH Aachen University raises external funding for teaching and research to the tune of 350 million euro a year \u2013 the highest level of third-party funding in all of Germany.<\/p>

The RWTH Aachen University Campus represents a new international market place for research, development and teaching. More than 120 companies are active here. With an investment volume of two billion euro, an area of 800,000 square metres, 19 research clusters and 10,000 secure jobs, the RWTH Aachen University Campus ranks as one of the largest university development projects in Europe.
